What is ESI?

Employees' State Insurance, who it covers and how it is paid.

ESI is a health and benefits insurance scheme for employees earning up to a wage limit, currently INR 21,000 a month gross.

The usual rates are 0.75% of wages from the employee and 3.25% from the employer.

Contributions are due by the 15th of the following month.

When an employee's pay moves above the limit, the rules for the contribution period matter. Check the current rules.

Dates and rules change. Check the current notification or ask your adviser before relying on this page.
