Your leave rules are not the same as the next company's. Set them up the way you run. Create leave types, set the rules for each in a policy, and configure the leave year, week-offs, blackout dates, the sandwich rule and notice periods.

Leave types your way
Paid or unpaid, counted in days or hours, unlimited or credit-based, with half-day, medical certificate, gender and backdating options.
Accrual rules
Credit leave monthly, yearly or upfront, in the months you choose, with an optional balance cap.
Carry forward and lapse

Eligibility and probation
Set a minimum length of service, a probation lock, and whether balances show during probation.
Limits on applying
Cap applications a month, set minimum and maximum days at a time, and choose the months leave can be taken.
Encashment
Mark a leave type as encashable and link it to a pay component.
Leave year and week-offs
Start the leave year when you want, set when leave lapses, and define week-off patterns such as 2nd and 4th Saturday.
Blackout dates, sandwich rule, notice
Block dates, apply a sandwich rule, and require notice before leave starts.

Do I have to start from scratch?
No. A starter policy for India is provided. Edit it, or build your own.
Can I have more than one policy?
Yes. You can create several policies and give one to everyone who does not have a policy yet.
Can leave be taken in hours?
Yes. A leave type can be counted in hours, with a set duration for each application.
Does it follow Indian law?
The starter policy follows common Indian practice. Statutory leave such as maternity is governed by the law, so check the current Act when you set it up.
